Title: Saw Blade Changing (Micro Automation Diamond Saw)

Purpose: Changing of the Diamond Saw Blade. Precautions: Please Read All of This Document Before Changing Blade. (BE VERY CAREFUL WITH BLADES) Procedure: I. PRELIMINARIES: 1. Obtain appropriate blade. Blades can be found in cabinet (labeled "SAW ACCESSORIES") above and to left of saw or contact Dr. Walsh. 2. Obtain following (All items are in cabinet above saw labeled "SAW ACCESSORIES"): a) Adjustable wrench. b) 5/32" & 9/64" hex key. c) Removal tool. d) Small screw driver. II. REMOVAL: 1. Move Plexiglass shield ,sitting in front of saw, out of way but in secure location. 2. Remove two screws holding small Plexiglass blade shield in place. This will free shield. Place screws and shield in secure area. 3. Place Removal tool onto nut holding blade on. 4. Place (5/32") hex key into end of spindle (spindle is shaft that blade is around). 5. Hold hex wrench while moving Removal tool COUNTER CLOCKWISE to loosen bolt. This can be done using one's hands or if bolt is too tight use adjustable wrench. 6. Remove nut and washer. Remember that side of washer with ring goes against blade. 7. Change blade and reverse above procedures. III. OPTIC ALIGNMENT: 1. Press "RESET". Located on left side of saw's front panel. This resets saw's axes. Saw's chuck will move in all three directions. 2. Follow "OPTIC ALIGNMENT PROGRAM" sheet attached to this document. 3. Turn monitor ON. Located on right side of saw, looks like small T.V. There is a small black switch on lower right corner of monitor's front (Side facing operator) labeled on-off. 4. Turn air regulator ON. (Located left of saw bench on wall, labeled as AIR UTILITY FILTER/REGULATOR) Turn top yellow knob (CLOCKWISE) until regulator gauge reads 70 PSI. 5. Turn water faucet ON (COUNTER CLOCKWISE). Faucet is located on sink right of saw. Faucet labeled "SAW WATER UTILITY". 6. Press "SPINDLE". Saw blade will start to spin. Wait for saw to 'beep' before continuing. 7. Telling machine where blade is with respect to chuck. a) Center CHUCK ZERO disk onto chuck. This metal disk is located on top of saw and is about 4 inches in diameter and is about 1/8" thick. b) Turn vacuum pump ON (located on lab table directly to left of saw), switch is located on top of pump near saw. c) Press "LOCK" to activate chuck vacuum. This secures any object on chuck to chuck's surface. d) Press "CHUCK ZERO". Chuck will move under saw blade. Then chuck will raise CHUCK ZERO disk up to blade. CHUCK ZERO disk will actually touching blade slightly. e) Press "UNLOCK". Remove CHUCK ZERO disk. (Place disk back onto top of saw) 8. Center scrap 4" (round) wafer on chuck. Press "LOCK". 9. Press "ALIGN". This will allow operator to align saw's first cut. For optic alignment, align wafer to be cut approximately in center. 10. Press "SINGLE CUT". Saw will perform one cut. a) Press chuck air button located underneath front of saw. This button will blow air across chuck to remove water that is on wafer. 11. Use (9/64") hex key to loosen (Turn COUNTER CLOCKWISE) two screws on neck of optics arm and adjust optics to line cut up with cutting line on monitor. Monitor cutting lines can be adjusted using five (5) push buttons on side of optics. Buttons are self explanatory. Retighten (Turn CLOCKWISE) optic arm screws as soon as optics are aligned. 12. Press "UNLOCK", this will turn chuck vacuum OFF. 13. Remove scrap wafer (return to appropriate location). 14. Turn vacuum pump OFF. 15. Press "RESET" 16. Press "STANDBY", this turns saw blade off and returns chuck to original position. 17. Turn air Filter/Regulator OFF (COUNTER CLOCKWISE). 18. Turn water faucet OFF (CLOCKWISE). 19. Wipe off chuck with clean cloth. 20. Return to SAW S.O.P.
